How to know if a brand is sustainable
According to Bella Webb, Sustainability Editor at Business Vogue, these are the questions to help you figure out whether a brand is fast fashion or sustainable. (Oct '25)
Do they make clothes out of synthetic materials that fall apart after a few wears? Do they offer low prices and frequent sales? Does their marketing give you a false sense of urgency and encourage overconsumption? Do they hide their supply chain and evade questions about their environmental impact? Do they refuse to answer when you ask whether their workers earn a living wage? Do they have an unequal power dynamic with their suppliers, threatening to cancel orders, asking for discounts, or demanding that suppliers make changes without financially supporting them to do so?
If the answer to any of those questions was yes, the likelihood is they're more fast fashion than they are sustainable. And if the answer to all of those questions was no, they're probably about as sustainable as possible.
