Travel Talk with Friends of STOW: Lindsay Brown

STOW sits down with New York-based photographer and Friend of STOW, Lindsay Brown. She discusses her travel tips and secrets.

To where would you most like to stowaway?

Recently my heart has been set on Japan, especially during cherry blossom season. I'd throw in a layover to The Maldives.

Who would you take with you?
My fiancé.

One essential piece of kit you cannot travel without, and why?
I have a favorite camera bag that comes with me on nearly every trip. It’s large enough to fit my camera, passport, and room key, and small enough to not feel like a camera bag.

What is your favourite STOW piece, and why?
The jewellery roll! It’s simple, not bulky, and has plenty of space for all of my valuables. I appreciate that I will no longer have to untangle necklaces from one another, lose an earring, or misplace rings. They all have their place.

What would you keep in your stowaway envelope?
I wear a lot of small rings that all manage to fit in the secret envelope. It will give me peace of mind to have a place for them, should I ever need to take them off while traveling.

Luxury or practicality – which one are you?
I’m practical when traveling to places I’m familiar with. But luxury in a foreign place. I’m a sucker for great hospitality, comfy hotel beds, and unique experiences.

Best piece of travel attire to stay stylish when on the move?
A hat! I acquired several this year and now can’t pack without one, especially when it folds up into your suitcase.

How do you stay stylish when travelling?
I like to keep it simple and tend to migrate toward packing neutral colors. Pieces that can be worn multiple times and styled in multiple ways makes packing for a longer trip particularly less daunting.

Best piece of fashion advice you’ve received?
Be yourself and don’t over think it.

Who is your travel hero/heroine and why?
Someone I admire deeply is my friend Kristen who, in less than a year, visited nearly every state in the US while on the road with friends.

Which luxury item can you not travel without?
A nice perfume. Off and on airplanes or on the road, it’s always nice to have on hand.
