STOW chats with Kate Carter, lifestyle editor of theguardian.com, to discover her travel secrets.
To where would you most like to stowaway?
Looking outside at a grey London sky, I’m dreaming of the Caribbean island of Nevis. I went last year and fell totally in love. It’s like every dream you ever had about the Caribbean, only real.
Who would you take with you?
My family – husband and two kids. They would be in absolute beach-and-sun heaven.
One essential piece of kit you cannot travel without, and why?

How do you stay stylish when travelling?
Try not to have too many bags. There’s nothing that makes you feel more flustered than having about four bags you might have just put your passport in …
Best piece of fashion advice you’ve received?
Spend money on the things you carry or wear every day, save on the things that will come and go.
Who is your travel hero/heroine and why?
My granny. She never used to look flustered, or anything less than her usual chic self, no matter how long the flight or coach journey or car trip – even into her 90s.
Which luxury item can you not travel without?
I really love a travel spray or light perfume – not just to put on yourself but because *planes*
